What do you do when you are frustrated or stymied? Do you try to figure out why? Do you look for something to eat?
Many of us look for something we can consume or something that consumes us or both. I often make popcorn or a couple of peanut butter sandwiches and watch TV. It is no wonder that I have gained the weight back I had successfully lost. Yes, the way I respond to life has turned success into failure.
I have to change my consumption patterns. When I first came to South Hill UMC I was very productive, visiting and carrying on the daily activities of a new pastorate. I often worked on my computer and yet, rarely if ever played a game like Hearts or Minesweeper. The other day I noticed that had changed and made myself write a paragraph or work on a project when I was tempted to play a game.
I ask the question again: What do you do when you are frustrated or stymied? Do you look for a way to be productive? No one ever gives birth to new life without going through labor. Can you find something you can consume for two?
Can we find something that fuels our frustration and our future at the same time? Yes, we can. For me, this morning it is writing this blog and cleaning my office. What will it be for you?
